Climax
The very height of this novel comes from the surprise that Holmes had killed his partner's(Pitezel) children, Alice, Nellie, and Howard. The very best of the best was put on the case, Detective Frank Geyer. He was one of Philadelphia's top detectives and had been a member of the force for twenty years, where he had investigated many of the same sort of cases, but this one being particularly unusual. The reason Holmes was put in jail in the first place was not for being a serial killer; that they didn't find out until a year later, but that he had committed insurance fraud.
